About
My Design Philosophy
Since I began my web development journey 2 years ago, I have consistently favored simple, intuitive, and colorful designs over flashy or overly-complicated layouts. I value ease of use and navigation, sleek and clutter-free layouts, and consistent patterns throughout the websites I create.
For every class, I took the effort to style the page for my own satisfaction, keeping the design relatively similar across several iterations and including different background images. I like incorporating a lot of color into my designs wherever possible. When possible, I avoided plain black text on white backgrounds, and instead styled the colors based off the images I found of natural landscapes or scenery.
For this portfolio, I chose a basic centered layout, with plenty of white space on either side to improve text readability. My original design included icons representing the subject of each class, but I scrapped this in favor of preserving the background images or colors I used for each class page. The result is a menu of buttons that all have a distinct color, making them stand out from the background and from each other. I felt this fitting to my experience in the web development program, as each class has been a very unique and distinct experience.
Career Goals
My short-term career goals are to find a position at a web development company, or a position in frontend development for any company. My Career Experience project has introduced me to a few very helpful and informative developers in the Green Bay area, and I will likely remain in touch with them in some capacity. Ideally, I will bring a unique skill set to a team and share my ideas on appealing web designs and layouts. I still have much to learn, however, and I look forward to gaining new perspectives and knowledge from other individuals working in frontend or backend web development. I will learn how to maximize my efficiency while coding, organize and structure my code for the best possible readability and understanding, and use these skills to navigate the expansive world of tech and web design.
My long-term career goals are to leverage new skills and abilities from my job into a permanent position as a frontend or full-stack developer, possibly branching out into other fields of IT as well. One of my favorite recent classes was C# Programming, which is a language I look forward to building projects with again in the future. I'm also interested in pursuing freelance work, building sites for individuals, small businesses, and whoever else needs a functional, stylish, and scalable web platform.
